To combat this, Tony can install security cameras to alert him to an imminent attack and recruit guards to fend off attackers until he arrives on the scene. Once purchased, fronts can come under attack from rival gangs. To purchase fronts, Tony must perform a mission for the owner before they will sell the business to him – these missions, coupled with storyline missions.
Acquiring 100% requires the player to perform certain actions within each region: purchase a certain number of fronts, eliminate rival gangsters, and carry out smaller missions involving purchasing and selling cocaine. Each turf must be controlled 100% before the next one becomes available for missions. At the start of the game, the entire map is available to explore, but Tony cannot carry out missions, attack rival gangs, or purchase property anywhere except Little Havana. There are four main geographical regions which Tony must control to complete the game Little Havana, Downtown, South Beach and North Beach. The mansion can also be customized with three distinct themes: the original one from the movie, a modern-looking one with a shark tank, and a Gothic castle-looking one. This can lead to a bit of frustration in a gunfight, as civilians may get in Tony’s way and the enemy gang members aren’t subject to that rule. If you play as the Chauffeur, Enforcer, or the Assassin it is possible to kill civilians, since they are not in honored bound to “…not fuck anyone who didn’t already have it coming to ’em”. It is however still possible to kill the police. In the event of running a civilian down with a car, the civilian will just get back up unharmed, or might start running away.
In the attempt of shooting an innocent person Tony will utter words such as “I only kill people who are dumb enough to fuck me”, and no rounds will be fired. Unlike the GTA games, it is not possible to kill innocent civilians as Tony (despite this game being even more violent than GTA when it comes to battles).
